Dr. Julie L. Gerberding

Dr. Gerberding became the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry (ATSDR) in July 2002.

Before becoming the CDC Director and ATSDR Administrator, Gerberding was Acting Deputy Director of the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID), where she played a major role in leading the CDC’s response to the anthrax bioterrorism events of 2001. She was also a faculty member at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), and directed the Prevention Epicenter, a multidisciplinary research, training and clinical service program that focused on preventing infections in patients and their healthcare providers.

She joined the CDC in 1998 as Director of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, NCID, where she developed patient safety initiatives and other programs to prevent infections, antimicrobial resistance, and medical errors within healthcare settings.

Gerberding is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at Emory University and an Associate Professor of Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at UCSF.

Dr. Michael Osterholm

Dr. Osterholm is the Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), the Director of the Center of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance within CIDRAP, and serves on the National Science Advisory Board on Biosecurity. From 2001 through 2005, Osterholm served then-Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson on the Advisory Council on Public Health Preparedness. Helping to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Osterholm was appointed to the interim management team in April 2002, assisting Dr. Julie Gerberding after her appointment as Director of the CDC, through January 2003. Osterholm provides a comprehensive review of America's preparedness for a bioterrorism attack in his book, Living Terrors: What America Needs to Know to Survive the Coming Bioterrorist Catastrophe, and through papers for Foreign Affairs, the New England Journal of Medicine, and Nature.

Dr. William Winkenwerder

Former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs
Dr. Winkenwerder was nominated by President Bush to be Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs in September 2001. He was responsible for the overall supervision of the health and medical affairs of the Department of Defense (DoD). He served as the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Secretary of Defense for all DoD health policies, programs and activities.

Winkenwerder is currently Chairman of The Winkenwerder Company, LLC, a health strategy and consulting firm; a Senior Advisor to Deloitte Consulting and the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions and serves as the Director of Logistics Health.

Governor Thompson is the nation’s leading advocate for the health and welfare of all Americans. He was the 19th individual to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services, a department which employed more than 60,000 personnel with a fiscal year budget of $429 billion.

Thompson has dedicated his professional life to public service, serving as governor of the state of Wisconsin from 1987-2001, making state history when he was re-elected to office for third and fourth consecutive terms. During his 14 years as governor, Thompson focused on revitalizing Wisconsin’s economy. He also gained national attention for his leadership on welfare reform, expanded access to healthcare for low-income citizens, and education. Thompson serves as the President of Logistics Health.

Lisa M. Koonin

Ms. Koonin provides leadership and coordination for partnerships with the CDC and business, education, healthcare and federal agencies, as well as with faith-based and community organizations.

Koonin is the Director for Business Partnerships for the CDC. She has been with the CDC for 20 years and previously served 12 years as the Chief of Reproductive Health Surveillance. Prior to her employment with the CDC, Koonin spent 10 years in a variety of clinical and faculty nursing leadership positions. Koonin is also a family nurse practitioner and epidemiologist.

Joseph McMenamin

Mr. McMenamin was a university-trained internist and a practicing emergency physician before being admitted to the bar. He holds both medical and law degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, and served a straight medicine residency at Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta before joining McGuire Woods in 1985.

As a member of the Life Sciences Industry team, McMenamin focuses on health-related litigation, including product liability, toxic torts, risk management, claims avoidance, and health law. His practice places particular emphasis on identification and development of the science informing the defense of claims against the manufacturers of medicines, vaccines and medical devices. More recently, he has been assisting clients in the preparation of pandemic and emergency plans. He is a Fellow of the College of Legal Medicine and an Associate Professor of Legal Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia.

Mr. Brownlee is a Vice President at Logistics Health and oversees commercial business development. He has more than 14 years of sales and marketing management experience, focusing his career on selling products and solutions to healthcare providers and healthcare product manufacturers. Brownlee oversees Logistics Health's commercial sales and corporate marketing team.
